Dr. Sabine Dembkowski

As the founder and director of The Coaching Centre. Sabine brings her background in strategy consulting and academic research to our practice. The “handwriting” is evident in The Coaching Centre´s rigorous and well founded principles and best practice approach.

Sabine’s interest in the interplay of markets, organisations and people stems from her training and studies in business management and strategic marketing in Germany and England.

After her studies, Sabine gained valuable experience working, among others, at the Institute of German Economy (Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft), Ford Motor Company Europe as well as the top management consultancies A.T. Kearney and Monitor Company in London. It was especially her time as a management consultant in London, with projects across Europe and the USA, that enabled her to gain in-depth leadership experience on a professional and personal level.

It was also at this point that Sabine became aware of the limitations of “traditional” approaches and conceptual models in consultancy. It is true that much could be, and was, achieved through a clearly structured consultancy process. However, she became fascinated with the following questions: How can you support people in management positions and enable them to develop and extend their own skills and expertise with authentic and lasting results? How do you enable executives to master the constantly increasing and changing challenges and requirements using their own resources?—After all, at the start of your career, analytical skills are highly valued.  Only with growing responsibilities does the development of personal, social and political skills come into play. All these are elements which do not feature in traditional training.

Whilst searching for answers she came across the approach of executive coaching, which was still a relatively new concept in Europe in the 1990s. The more she looked into the subject the clearer it became that this was the perfect component to complement traditional management consultancy. With great enthusiasm she took advantage of many first-rate training and development courses parallel to her work as a consultant. Sabine is still actively involved in research in the field of leadership and executive coaching.

She underwent formal training at renowned coaching organisations in the USA (Lore International), England (School of Coaching) and Germany (Heidrick & Struggles).   Since then Sabine and her colleagues have devoted their professional lives to the opportunities and prospects coaching offers. For example, The Coaching Centre initiated an international best practice study on the issue of “Coaching” in collaboration with reputable English colleagues, which has received international recognition. Sabine’s familiarity with established coaching methods and her ability to convey this knowledge is recognised by her membership of the Executive Coach Pool at the London Business School.

Sabine takes great pleasure in using executive coaching to support leading organisations and ambitious individuals as their sparring partner.
